MENA

Broader region where INWRDAM’s impact extends through cross-border collaboration and regional initiatives

MENA (Middle East and North Africa) serves as a broader region where INWRDAM’s impact extends through cross-border collaboration and regional initiatives. Our WEFE Nexus Hubplays a pivotal role in this region, fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange among MENA countries. This hub enhances resource management by addressing the interdependencies between water, energy, food, and ecosystems, and supports the integration of the Nexus approach into institutional frameworks across the region.

In MENA, our programs focus on climate resilience, water diplomacy, and sustainable development. Projects like the Blue Peace Middle East initiative exemplify our commitment to regional cooperation in addressing water scarcity and promoting sustainable resource management. We also work to empower communities through participatory approaches and capacity building, ensuring that our initiatives are impactful and relevant to the diverse challenges faced across the MENA region. This unique initiative is led by a regionally owned mechanism, which is comprised of members from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Türkiye, and, to a certain extent, Iran and Syria. The Blue Peace ME Regional Mechanism (RM) contributes to peace by stimulating political and technical dialogues about water and supporting concrete regional projects, know-how transfer, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building activities in its member countries.

Context

In the MENA region, the Community of Practice (CoP) serves as a dynamic platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders in water, energy, food, and ecosystems (WEFE) sectors. The CoP aims to bridge gaps between diverse actors, including government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector, to foster integrated resource management and sustainable development.

By leveraging regional expertise and fostering collaboration, INWRDAM aims to drive sustainable solutions and advance water resource management throughout MENA.
