Transforming Agriculture with the Sama Sarhan Project

01 January 2023

In 2023, INWRDAM initiated the Sama Sarham Project (From Wadi to Souq) near the Sama Al-Sarhan Dam in Mafraq Governorate, Jordan. Supported by the Dutch Embassy and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and partnered with the National Harvest Project, Acacia Water, IHE Delft, and the Smart Desert Project, this initiative aimed to revolutionize local agriculture through sustainable practices by integrating water, food, and energy resources.

INWRDAM Agrometeorological Weather Stations: Transforming Agricultural Precision

In the agriculturally diverse and arid regions of Jordan, farmers have long faced challenges due to unpredictable weather patterns and limited access to reliable data. These conditions often led to inefficient water use and inconsistent crop yields, undermining the sustainability of the agricultural sector. Recognizing the urgent need for precise weather data to support informed decision-making, INWRDAM, in partnership with AFD and Mercy Corps, launched a transformative project to establish thirteen agrometeorological weather stations across key agricultural regions.

Institutionalizing WEFE Nexus in Jordan and Egypt

01 January 2023

A remarkable achievement in institutionalizing WEFE would be the agreement with the government of Egypt to provide technical support to establish a WEFE Nexus Unit in coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MoWRI) as the focal point for this Unit, mirroring the success of the WEFE Framework established in Jordan.

Operational WEFE Nexus Hub (Virtual Platform)

Establishment and Institutionalization of WEFE Nexus for MENA

The success of our project in managing water, energy, and food security in the MENA region hinges on active stakeholder engagement. By involving key government officials and main stakeholders from Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia at the decision-making level, and engaging non-governmental actors as part of the WEFE Community of Practice, INWRDAM ensured comprehensive participation. Workshops conducted in Jordan and Egypt identified stakeholders and potential users for the WEFE Nexus Hub, defining its uses and training needs. This collaborative input refined the Hub's design and tailored training programs to stakeholders' capacities. Investing in diplomatic relations facilitated regional dialogue and advocacy, promoting a unified approach to sustainable development and addressing shared challenges.

Revolutionizing Agriculture with the Business Support Incubator (BSI)

01 January 2022

In 2022, INWRDAM launched the Business Support Incubator (BSI), a pioneering initiative designed to transform the agricultural sector in Jordan. Located at the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), this program underscores our commitment to sustainable development through innovation and entrepreneurship.

Advancing Agricultural Efficiency and Sustainability

In 2023, the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) initiated a significant project to develop and sustain farms within the regions of Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa, and Jerash. This initiative, backed by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), GreenTech, Horizon, and the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), was designed to optimize water utilization and minimize waste in the agricultural sector, tackling essential issues in resource management.

INWRDAM Field Schools: A Transformative Journey in Agriculture

In the challenging landscapes of Ramtha, Al Khalidiya, and Salim Nammour Farm, traditional farming practices faced severe constraints due to limited water resources and high soil salinity. Farmers in these regions struggled with inefficient irrigation methods, leading to decreased crop yields and increased costs. The need for innovative solutions was critical to ensure the sustainability and viability of agricultural activities.
