Satellite Imagery for groundwater pumping estimation

This project aims to estimate the actual groundwater pumping for agriculture in Azraq and Mafraq areas covered
In order to estimate the actual use, remote sensing tools are used to model an area with data scarcity. This approach proved to be efficient in arid and semi-arid areas. In such areas, green spots can be easily identified by remote sensing with a very low noise generated by grasses and natural land cover.
Irrigated areas are extracted from satellite images and classified as per the use type collected through the field survey. Having irrigated areas calculated and based on climatic data and ETo and ETc values, crop water requirement was calculated using crop coefficients from FAO56.
