Establishment and Institutionalization of WEFE Nexus Hub for MENA

Description

The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus project was launched in Amman, Jordan, during the third high-level meeting for the WEFE Community of Practice in the Red Sea countries. Funded by the Swedish government and the Union for the Mediterranean, this initiative aims to promote the WEFE nexus approach across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to support environmental sustainability and socio-economic activities. The project will establish a WEFE Nexus Hub in the Red Sea region using a participatory approach, review and enhance policies, build capacity in member countries, and implement pilot projects. The field visit included a trip to Al-Wala Dam, where a pilot project demonstrating the WEFE Nexus approach is being implemented. This project showcases the effectiveness of integrated natural resource management by utilizing solar-powered hydroponic systems that draw water from the dam, contributing to sustainable agriculture and resource management in the region.
